Pull up a Seat and Stay a While

Well I have had the best of weekends in Toronto, attending an impromptu workshop with the talented Judith Blondell!  A master miniaturist and wonderful host, who put us all up for weekend.

Recently, while planning what I would be doing in my workshop at Camp Mini Ha Ha in September, I mentioned that I would love to make a tuffed leather wing chair for the project, similar to what I had seen other campers have in their past project.  It's amazing how a casual comment grew into a wonderful weekend in Toronto, with eight particpants gathered around Judith's dining table, crafting this wonderful wing chair.

My chair is almost completed, I still have to add the brass nail heads, shown in Judith's example below, but overall I am so pleased with the chair.  I cannot believe that I have learned so much in these two days.  How to carve in the wood, the best woods to use to make upholstered furniture, even how to glue the upholstery and the right glues to use in the right situations.

During the time after class I got to view Judith's wonderful work and I cannot tell you how impressed I was with her creations.  If you ever get a chance to take one of her classes or purchase some of her work, it is well worth the costs.  I was so impressed, I purchased a second chair kit, here is the prototype.  This will be my homework project.

Here is Judy holding up one of her recent workshop projects.

I also got a few extra days to shop in Toronto, a visit to the Little Dollhouse Company, and a special delivery from Liz at Grandpa's Dollhouse made my weekend divine.  More to share on my purchases in the coming days.

I'm still in Toronto for a few more days of real life work, then back to Newfoundland on Friday evening.

Hope you like my new addition to my collection.

Until the next time.....

Wanda
